Do you think your cheeks are starting to look hollow? Maybe you think your cheekbones seem too bony. Perhaps you’d prefer to have a more defined jawline. Sculptra is a biocompatible injectable filler that is used to correct volume loss in the cheeks, temples, mid and lower facial wrinkles, nasolabial folds, and furrows. Sculptra won’t prevent you from losing fat in your face since it’s not a cure, but it can correct the resulting conditions from age-related fat loss, HIV lipoatrophy, and other medical conditions.

What is Sculptra Injectable Filler?

Sculptra is a synthetic biochemical liquid composed of Polylactic acid. Since Polylactic acid is a biodegradable substance, your body eventually disposes of it naturally. The injections stimulate collagen production by your skin’s own fibroblasts, which thicken the skin. Sculptra treats a larger area than Juvederm, Restylane, and other HA fillers, and is usually selected based on the age of the patient and ease of maintenance.

What Can I Expect from Sculptra Injectable Filler?

The procedure takes about 20-30 minutes. A topical numbing cream is applied to the area 45 minutes before the procedure. We inject Sculptra beneath the dermal layer of the skin, then massage the area for 2-3 minutes to help prevent small bumps from forming. Once the treatment is complete, patients can receive an ice pack to ease any discomfort. We recommend 3 treatments with one month intervals. One maintenance session is recommended per year. If there’s any discomfort, we can apply topical anesthetic cream or a local anesthesia. This volume-fill treatment lasts one and a half to two years.

Sculptra is not intended to be used for frown lines, the forehead, around the eyes, around the mouth, or in the lips.

Recommended Pre-Treatment Instructions

Don’t use Sculptra if you have an allergy to lidocaine. We do not recommend Sculptra if you are pregnant or nursing. Don’t use Sculptra if you have lupus, Sjogren’s Syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, or any other autoimmune diseases. Avoid Aspirin, ibuprofen, Aleve, or any other blood-thinning medication one week before your session unless otherwise instructed by a physician.

What Happens After Sculptra Injectable Filler? Aftercare Instructions

Final results take 45-90 days to appear since the body is building your own collagen. There is no downtime. Sculptra treatments last about 2 years after all sessions are completed. One maintenance session is recommended to maintain the longevity of the procedure. You may apply makeup the day after your treatment. Avoid strenuous exercise for 1-2 days. You might see some fullness in the area for the first 2 days from the water in the product. You may experience some bruising, but that’s completely normal and clears quickly. Some patients experience swelling at the injection site that can last up to 7 days.

Are There Any Side Effects to Sculptra Injections?

Some patients experience mild discomfort because the injections contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic. It’s possible to develop tiny, almost invisible bumps at the injection site, but these are temporary and can be massaged out. Some patients experience swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness, discoloration, and itching at the injection site, but these side effects go away on their own in 1-14 days following the treatment.
