What Do We Treat?

Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic disorder involving inflammation of the cheeks, nose, chin, forehead, or eyelids. It may cause redness, prominent blood vessels, swelling, or skin eruptions similar to acne. The cause of rosacea is unknown. It occurs most often in fair skinned people, particularly those who blush easily. Women are more commonly affected, but men are usually more severely affected. Symptoms usually begin between the ages of 30 to 50.

There is no known cure for rosacea. In our treatment, we strive to control the redness, inflammation, and skin eruptions. Long-term treatment (5 to 8 weeks or more) with oral antibiotics often controls skin eruptions. We also use topical antibiotics for long-term treatment of skin eruptions. In severe cases, laser surgery may help reduce the redness.
